LIV has recently built 10 hydroponic tunnels over 2400m2 which have been jointly funded by LIV and the department of agriculture. Cucumbers will be grown in the tunnels, and we are anticipating to produce 180,000 per year.
Some of SA’s leading retailers have expressed interest in purchasing fresh produce from LIV. They will receive maximum procurement points for their B-BBEE scorecard, and at the same time they will be contributing to help LIV raise up future leaders in our country.
In the future, we plan to move into livestock farming on a small scale for our own consumption.
Agriculture has been included in the school curriculum as a viable option for the LIV Children to move into after their schooling.
We are presently in the process of setting up gardens in the community where we are teaching the local people “no tillage” method of growing vegetables. This “out grower” model would work hand in hand with the flower model, where LIV will buy the produce from the local community, pack it in the proposed Vegetable Pack House and distribute to the market place.
